Tips from Moskito: How to stay productive while working from home
If you are like the Moskito Riviera Maya team, you’ve been working from home for a few weeks now. For those of you that are sharing the house with kids, partners, roommates, or family, we know how hard it can be to remain productive while working from home. We wanted to share a few tips with you, to help get back to your normal routine as much as possible and make sure you hit those deadlines and goals that you have at work.
1. Keep your routine.
As tempting as it is to sleep in or work in your pajamas all day, try to maintain the same schedule that you had when you were going to the office. Wake up, make your coffee, shower and get dressed and ready for the day. You’ll be so much more efficient when you aren’t working in your pjs, we promise 🙂
2. Create a workspace
Working in front of the tv or from the sofa will make it VERY easy for you to get distracted. Find a quiet place to set up your work area, away from distractions and preferably at a table or desk.
3. Set your “office hours” and remind your housemates
Make sure your family knows that your work time is important and to treat you just like you are at the office, with no interruptions unless it is an emergency.
4. Become a home office DJ
Missing the hustle and bustle of the office and the noise? Check out Spotify’s “Work from Home” playlists, cue up some music and get busy.
5. Check-in with your colleagues.
Living in 2020, we are lucky enough to be able to virtually connect with our colleagues, whether it be for meetings or for a virtual Happy Hour. If you are feeling isolated working from home, reach out with different virtual chatting platforms like Zoom, Facetime, or Google Hangouts.
6. Take breaks
It is too easy sometimes to get focused on one thing and forget to eat your lunch or drink water, to sit at your workspace all day with no breaks. Stay hydrated, stand up and stretch, grab a healthy snack, and be sure to eat lunch!
7. Set a finish time
When working from home, it’s important to have a good work/life balance. Just like you can get so focused on the work that you skip lunch, you can also be so focused that you work all day and night, forgetting to separate life and work. Decide on a finish time for the day and stick with it.
8. Clean up your workspace
Once the day is over, put your work away. Your laptop, notebooks, etc, clean up your space so that you are ready for a fresh start the next day.
