Mexico Rated #1 for Expats!
InterNations, a company created to help expats around the globe connect, has published a report of the top 10 expats destinations and coming in at number 1 is our beautiful home, Mexico!
What makes Mexico so great for expats?
The country comes in number 1 for finding friends, local friendliness, and a welcoming culture. If you’ve ever moved to a new city, you know that can be the hardest part, finding your people and creating a new group of friends. Have no fear, in Mexico and specifically the Riviera Maya there are so many ways to meet new people. There are meetups planned by organizations like Mexpats, fun events to branch out and network. For the wellness focused there are bilingual yoga classes, ice baths, group workouts like Crossfit, and running clubs. Being an expat myself, I have found all of these groups so incredibly welcoming and I’ve made lifelong friendships. InterNations reports that local residents are described by expats as friendly and easy to make friends with.
Mexico is rated #1 when it comes to the ease of settling in, and 2nd with personal finance. Personal finance is based on three factors: cost of living in general, satisfaction with the financial situation, and whether a respondent’s disposable household income is enough to allow the expat to have a comfortable life. Ease of settling in is exactly how it sounds, how easy it is to adjust to the culture, to find friends, and how friendly locals are to foreign residents. 86% of the respondents feel at home in Mexico and 91% of the expats are happy.
Expats love the food and the nature they find here in Mexico and I couldn’t agree more, the variety of options when it comes to dining out as well as the low cost of healthy food in the supermarket make eating at a restaurant or at home, a treat.
I’ve mentioned frequently how much I enjoy living in the Riviera Maya and being a part of this community. My day-to-day lifestyle, the comfort I am afforded based on my income, the people, the food, the nature, the list just goes on and on. 10 years ago when I was trying to decide whether to move to Playa del Carmen or not, a good friend of mine told me, “take a chance, I don’t think you’ll regret it”. And without a doubt, moving here was the best decision of my life.
Are you ready to take the leap and move abroad? I promise you, you won’t regret it.
