Eco technologies and Sustainable projects in Tulum
Eco-technology is a set of applied techniques that guarantee the use of natural resources in a clean way, derived from science, integrating the fields of ecology and technology. All over the world, developers are making great strides to improve the construction of new projects, both residential and commercial, and to put into place more eco-technologies, to make their projects more sustainable and decrease the impact on the environment.
The Solemn family of developments is a perfect example of eco-technologies and sustainable projects in Tulum, Mexico.
Here are a few of the methods that Solemn is using in the construction of their sustainable projects in Tulum.
SOLAR PANELS
Solar energy is renewable energy obtained by harnessing the sun’s electromagnetic radiation. Each Solemn project will have solar panels to generate energy for the common areas of the complex.
WIND GENERATORS
Wind energy is renewable energy obtained by harnessing the kinetic energy of air masses. Solemn Peaceful will have wind generators that provide energy for the common areas of the development.
RAINWATER COLLECTORS
Solemn projects will collect rainwater, which goes through a filtering process. Rainwater for domestic use can be used for indoor and outdoor cleaning, sanitation, washing clothes, maintaining green areas and preserving the environment.
ATMOSPHERIC DRINKING WATER GENERATORS
This incredible technology is capable of generating up to 70 litres of clean, ionised, alkaline water per day. Within this generator, a process takes place just like in the cycle of nature: evaporation, condensation, filtration (UV, activated carbon and reverse osmosis), and use of the water. Goodbye to plastic water bottles. There will be 3 generators in both Solemn Peaceful and Solemn Lagoon— one on each floor. Each one produces up to 70 litres daily, so there will be approximately 200 litres of drinking water available in each building, every day.
HYDROLOOP
This innovative system is a 100% Mexican invention, which avoids wasting water in the bathrooms (shower and sink) while waiting for it to heat up. Every minute we let the water run while waiting for it to heat up, we waste between 10 and 20 litres a day. If we only take one bath a day and only wait one minute, we are wasting 3650 to 7300 litres per person per year. At Solemn there will be a savings of at least 175000 to 350000 litres per year.

FILTRATION AND REUSE OF GRAY WATERS IN TOILETS
Gray water is the water already used for showering and hand washing, as well as wastewater from the kitchen. Once filtered, it is reused for flushing toilets and irrigation.
WATER TREATMENT PLANT
In Tulum today, only 20% of the developments are connected to a sewage network. Therefore, developers must be responsible for the management and filtration of waste. Solemn will have a treatment plant, which is responsible for filtering the water in order to treat grey and black water, in order to remove contaminants—physical, chemical and biological.
CLEANING WITH OZONATED WATER
Traditional chemical cleaners (chlorine, acid) are responsible for polluting more than 17 million litres of water, which is then discharged into rivers, streams and aquifers every month. Solemn will clean with ozonated water, which is capable of disinfecting with equal or greater efficiency than traditional chemicals.
CONSTRUCTION WASTE MANAGEMENT
The construction industry is responsible for up to 40% of the waste generated on the planet. The developers of Solemn, being aware of this, have decided to generate art with this waste, with the aim of no longer sending waste to landfills. The generated artworks will be auctioned in order to contribute to our social sustainability program, “Smart Share”.
RECYCLING DURING CONSTRUCTION
The importance of recycling brings many benefits, for example: saving energy, using less raw materials, manufacturing new products, creating jobs, and preserving the environment. At Solemn, they seek to give everything its place, therefore the recycling is an essential part of the development operation.
All of these incredible eco-technologies being used by Solemn’s developers are one of the many reasons why we are excited to share their projects with you.
