Thinking of Moving to Riviera Maya?
It´s a big step to go from thinking about moving to Mexico to actually moving to
Mexico. Far too many people never take that final step because they´re paralyzed by all the
details and all the choices that must be made. Sound familiar?
It requires a systematic approach…from downsizing and figuring out what you´ll take
with you and what you´ll leave behind to start your visa application…from deciding
when to sell your house or give notice to your landlord and then buying that plane ticket
to your pre-determined destination.
Before you even begin to consider any of this you need to have a destination of Mexico
in mind. It´s the most important decision you need to make. And it´s one that can seem a
little overwhelming because there are so many options.
And therein lies the problem: The place you think is perfect for you now may not be so
perfect when it comes down to pulling the trigger and making your move. There may be
a place you´ve never thought of that hits your hot buttons even better.
One way to figure out where you´re meant to be is to write it all out. Make a list of
everything you want and everything you don´t want and start cross-referencing.

more…things you may not always think about as you´re making this important kind of life
decision.
Three important considerations:
Climate:
Do you love a tropical climate, or perhaps one that´s more temperate –
never too hot or too cold? There´s no place with perfect weather 365 days a
year…but in the Riviera Maya, there are some spots that come close. It just
depends on what “perfect” means to you. Keep in mind that most sunny beach
locations can get hot and a bit humid at certain times of the year.
You will beswimming in the beautiful Caribbean of Mexico with a temperature of 30 C during the summertime and sometimes may feel a bit cold and windy during rainy seasons and the ocean temperature will be 24C.
Budget:
It´s doubtful you want to move somewhere more expensive than where
you live now. The Riviera Maya is one of the world´s best overseas destinations,
with a lower cost of living than the U.S. or Canada. For instance, in the Riviera
Maya gasoline for your car may be equal and same goes for anything imported
(electronics, wine, and spirits, clothing, etc.). Electricity and fiber optic WIFI will be
around 1,200 yearly. Food on the other hand is a completely different story, from
groceries store to local markets, you will be paying up to 60% less compared to
the U.S. or Canada. Also, a big factor is that you will be able to find in the street local
markets fruits and vegetables that come directly from the crops (not necessarily
labeled ORGANIC). To give you an idea about local taxes you might be required
to pay, in the Riviera Maya for example, property tax for a 400,000 USD property
will be around 500 USD yearly.
Healthcare
This should be your most important consideration. You may be
healthy now, but you never know what can happen. No matter how inexpensive a
visit to the doctor is, it’s important to have some kind of health plan coverage.
And while there are all kinds of options available, you need to choose the one
that makes the most sense for your personal circumstances. Don´t overlook this
critical component that can make or break your future. For example, a 50-year-old adult will pay somewhere around 3,000 USD for full coverage private health insurance with the best hospitals and doctors with the option to add dental coverage for an extra 500 USD per year.
We start by helping you make an “investment assessment” to ensure that you´re
investing your time and energy on the place that´s truly best for you.
And then we dive deep into the processes that help you get there. Every detail. Every
step.
