Here are my top 3 things I look for when renting on Airbnb and things you should consider when buying a property to use for a rental.

Good location

I’ve never rented a car on vacation, how crazy is that?! But you know why it’s never been necessary? Because I look for an Airbnb that is in a prime location. If I’m in the city, I want to be near parks, public transport, and restaurants.

If I’m in Playa del Carmen, I want to be near
the beach, restaurants, shopping, and 5th Ave.

Amenities

Pool, gym, a rooftop with killer views, these are all things I look for when I’m renting. Families love when the building has a kids’ club or designed shallow part of the pool for kiddos to splash around in. Even though people aren’t staying at a resort, they still love having those resort like amenities.

Comfort and Coolness

I want to feel comfy at my rental, like I do at home. Nice linens and comfortable beds, a television, etc. Think outside the box, some little details can definitely add to your guests’ experience. My favorite thing to find at an Airbnb is coffee. Because if I don’t have time to get to a store, the bare necessity for me is coffee for the morning.

The first picture of a listing in Airbnb gets me to click. Cool and unique decor, whether it be a modern place or something a little older, character is everything for me. Plants, bright colors, artwork on the walls, remember that the decor and vibe of the apartment, via pictures only, is a huge part of what makes people book.

It’s so important to tell your real estate agent your plan for the property, to use it as a vacation rental or long term rental (6-12 months), so that your agent can search for the most desirable location, with amenities, and get you pointed in the right direction when it comes to furnishing and decorating your place.
