Head south and explore Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, and Tulum!!
So you’ve mastered the collectivo system and you’re ready to explore, where do you go? The areas south of Playa del Carmen are exploding with opportunities for real estate investments and vacation rentals. Little towns that were unknown before are becoming more and more popular and attractive to those looking to purchase property in Mexico but wanting something off the beaten path. Three areas in particular – Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, and Tulum have so much to offer, exciting things to do and beautiful landscapes to take in.
Puerto Aventuras
Just 12 miles (18 km) south of PDC, Puerto Aventuras is a gated community with a marina and a little downtown area with restaurants, boats for fishing excursions and Dolphin Discovery. I always feel like I’m in a small town when I visit Puerto Aventuras, with a farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays you really get the community feel.
Akumal
23 miles (37 km) south of PDC, Akumal Beach is great for a day trip; you can bring your own snorkel equipment and spend the day seeing amazing fish and sea turtles. This beach is a favorite of mine, a place that I always take friends when they are visiting the area for the first time.
Tulum
39 miles (63 km) from Playa, Tulum is the closest archaeological site and the only located on the coast of the Caribbean. The beach below the ruins is one of the most stunning I have ever seen, with incredible white sand and the turquoise of the ocean, every photo I take there ends up looking like a postcard.
All three areas are unknown by many and have many real estate opportunities available, in particular, Tulum, where real estate is booming. For those people who love the Rivera Maya but are looking for something outside of the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area you should check these places. Happy exploring!!
