Friday Favorites: Fave Places to Watch the Sunset in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen is without a doubt a sunrise city, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a nice place to sit, relax, and enjoy the glow of sunset as the day ends and the night begins.
Here are our Top 3 Places to Watch the Sunset in Playa del Carmen
Parque Fundadores
One of our favorite spots to catch the sunset in Playa del Carmen is the recently remodeled Parque Fundadores. Located at the end of 5th Avenue, Parque Fundadores is near the ferry to Cozumel and has just been repaved with new benches, providing a perfect place to relax after spending the day on 5th Avenue. The best part of this park is a beautiful beachfront bronze sculpture, entitled “Portal Maya”. This amazing sculpture celebrates the Mayan calendar and was designed by artist Arturo Taravez. 16 meters/52 feet high, this sculpture is the first thing you see when you arrive at the park and without a doubt has become an iconic image of Playa del Carmen.
Fusion Beach Club
Located on Calle 6 and the beach, this is a great spot to enjoy a good beer or cocktail, around 6 pm, just as the sun starts to set. We’re sure you’ll end up spending the entire night at Fusion, the food is delicious, there’s live music most nights, and the breeze off the ocean when the sun goes down is so nice. This is also a nice spot for a date.
Mvngata Rooftop
This beach club/ rooftop is located just 10 minutes north of downtown Playa del Carmen and is easily our favorite rooftop in town, the sunset here is killer. A great view of the city and the ocean, plus a DJ, this a great place to spend all day on Saturday or Sunday, enjoying food and drinks, an incredible view of the Caribbean, and then the sunset at the end of the day. One thing to note, Mvngata Rooftop is for adults only.
These are three of our favorite places to watch the sunset in Playa del Carmen. Do you have a favorite spot in Playa or the Riviera Maya for the sunset?
