Living in paradise, we never tire of exploring different areas of the Riviera Maya. There is always something to do, whether it’s relaxing on the beach right outside of the condos in Playa del Carmen, enjoying the pool at your Tulum real estate, or perhaps taking a small “staycation”, enjoying a weekend away from your Playa del Carmen real estate on a beautiful tropical island. Three gorgeous islands are all just a short drive and ferry ride away, Holbox, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres!
Holbox
Thanks to the new toll road that was just completed last year, the drive to Holbox has been cut from 2.5 hours to only 1! The ferries at Chilaquila start running daily at 5 am and the cost is less than $10 USD. Spend the entire weekend exploring the island, the water is amazing, the village is quaint, and the wildlife is fantastic; whale sharks in the summer, dolphins, turtles and flamingos all year round!
Cozumel
From downtown Playa del Carmen, jump on the ferry and head to Cozumel, just a short 45 minutes on the boat and you’ve arrived. Rent a jeep for the day or scooters to explore the island. For scuba divers the protected reef is an incredible place to spend the day, one of the most beautiful and largest reefs in the Western hemisphere.
Isla Mujeres
Head north to Cancun to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres, the perfect place to spend a relaxing weekend away. Enjoy the amazing clear waters in the bay, rent a golf cart and explore the island, make sure to visit Punta Sur (the southern point of the island), there you’ll find a sculpture garden, lighthouse and remains of a temple dedicated to the Mayan goddess of fertility, Ixchel. Bring your camera to get some great pictures!
