Big Box Stores in Riviera Maya

If you have purchased a piece of Riviera Maya real estate and plan on making Mexico your home all year round or being here part of the year, there are a couple of big box stores in the area where you can purchase household products and/or groceries in bulk for a discounted price.

There are 2 big box stores in Playa del Carmen, Sam’s Club and City Club and in Cancun there is a Costco.  There have been rumors of a Costco being built in Playa del Carmen in the next couple of years as well, which would be another great addition to the area.

Sam’s Club & City Club

Sam’s Club is located on the Federal Carretera, just south of the entrance to Playacar. I joined Sam’s Club a couple months ago and paid 450 pesos for my membership, that’s about $35 USD for a year and that gives me two cards, making it easy to split the membership with a friend.

What is great about this is that I can use my card at Sam’s Club back in the states too, so for those visiting on vacation or maybe spending only part of the year here, it’s a great bonus to be able to use the card in both countries. City Club is similar to Sam’s and located just a little farther south and on the other side of the highway, in the Centro Maya mall complex.

Home Depot

Another great addition to Playa del Carmen, this past August a Home Depot was opened on Federal Carretera and Colosio Avenue. No membership is needed and it’s a great place for picking up items for any do-it-yourself projects you might have.

Keep these big box stores in mind when doing your shopping in Playa del Carmen, whether you own real estate in Riviera Maya and are here full or part time or if you are on vacation. If you already have a membership to Sam’s or Costco, bring your card with you when you visit Playa del Carmen or Cancun and you’ll have access to the stores.
